House in Devon

The site comprises an existing late 20th century house of no particular architectural merit. The site, however, although outside the local conservation area, is adjacent to an AONB (area of outstanding natural beauty) close to the cliffs which form part of the UNESCO world heritage site, as well as being a SSSI (site of special scientific interest) with stunning panoramic views.

The proposed new house is smaller, but with a larger footprint, and has been re orientated to take advantage of the views. It is unashamedly contemporary with a simple palette of flint boundary walls, white rendered main walls with timber windows and infills and large glazed screens; and still fits in with the local surroundings.
