Park Children’s Centre is located on the site of the former Park Primary School, Skelmersdale. The scheme comprised of the complete refurbishment of an existing, vacant, primary school building and associated external works, to form the new Children’s Centre.

The Park Children’s Centre facility offers full day care for 52 0-5 year olds, together with Service Provision which includes a Community/Training Room for 20 delegates, a Crèche, and 3 Small Interview Rooms. Associated staff facilities are also readily available within the centre.

The building, separated on plan into the 3 key areas (Childcare, Service Provision and Staff), is serviced by a single entrance and reception point. The reception area is an open space which entices the public into the building using colour and graphics to welcome the community. The Childcare area features a series of stimulating spaces incorporating playful details designed to encourage the children to develop to their full potential.

Secure external play spaces, accessed directly from the Childcare areas, offer a variety of surfaces to stimulate children’s play time whilst contributing warmth and textural variation to the environment.

Overall the project signifies a new beginning and investment in the future of the area through education and training of children and all sections of the community.
